Imaginary Airship is a one-of-a-kind four piece rock outfit from Portland, Oregon. The band formed in 2006 and began to acquire a devoted fan base across the United States with their unique mixture of ambient, electronic soundscapes and melodic pop songs. 2007 saw the release of the debut album "Where Dreams Take Flight" to much critical acclaim.
Since then, the band has gravitated away from its introspective, acoustically-driven roots, shifting the songwriting focus towards lyrically-driven pieces of "flash fiction" with a Vaudevillian flair for the dramatic and bizarre. The long anticipated follow up, "Chronoscopic Compendium", is set for release in December 2011. A self described "double-disc, double-concept album with a plot that involves time travel and metaphysical themes", it's an ambitious endeavor for a relatively new band, to say the least. Drawing inspiration from many different eras and sounds ranging from early 1900's ragtime to 60's pop, 70's hard rock, soundtracks, alt-country and more experimental electronic influences, the band sews a patchwork quilt of styles that stretches pop to its outer limits.
